| | Come experience quality theatre, musical performances and visual arts in this special, week-long series of high-quality art productions. The University of Florida College of Fine Arts, School of Theatre and Dance will present four different productions throughout the week. Plus, The 2009 Juried Student and Alumni Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition showcasing the works of eight very talented artists whose careers have been formed and refined at The University of Florida's School of Art and Art History will be on display throughout the week. A variety of media were used in the works that will be on display, including steel, brass, carved wood, marble, concrete, hot-formed glass, prisms, and hand-spun wool. Thematically, the engaging concepts that inspired these large sculptures include aspects of ecology, alternative energy, theology, African religion, human perception, fiber arts, and formal interests of sculpture and drawing.
The School of Theatre and Dance at the will include several performances throughout the week. Performances of the stage version of the Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated production Grease will be performed at 8 p.m. on Monday and at 9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The theatrical production of Jane Austin’s romantic masterpiece, Pride and Prejudice will be performed at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, 7 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Sunday. On Thursday at 8 p.m. relax and enjoy a Night at the Opera, featuring outstanding performances from some of the most popular operas of all time. On Saturday at 7 p.m., The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra will perform their special American Pops. Then laugh till your heart’s content while witnessing The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged, a hilarious, fast-paced, Monty Python-type romp through Shakespeare’s plays at 8 p.m. on Tuesday and 7 p.m. on Sunday. |
