ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (March 11) -- On March 28, the City of St. Augustine Beach will kick off its months-long 50th Birthday Celebration with a seaside Twist and Shout -- the perfect event to capture the American spirit of 1959, the year of the city’s birth! Complete with the sounds of the 15-piece All Star Orchestra, Twist and Shout will create a 50’s, 60’s and 70’s vibe from 8 p.m. until midnight. Dances including the Twist, Shag, Hustle and Swim are sure to be seen and all of the Cool Kats and Hip-to-the-Scene chicks in attendance can enter a killer Dance Contest for cash and prizes!

Twist and Shout will take place in the ballroom of the newly renovated Holiday Inn at 860 Beach Boulevard (A1A) in St. Augustine Beach. The event will include heavy hors d’oeuvres, a complimentary cocktail and a cash bar. To maintain a “groovy” state of mind, there will be Car Hops on roller skates. Tickets are $25 each. In addition, the Holiday Inn is rolling back room rates for Twist and Shout ticket holders.

Incorporated in November 1959, this 50th birthday for St. Augustine Beach is being celebrated with a variety of events designed to highlight the attractions and atmosphere that has made the city such a popular getaway destination for the past five decades. September 12 will feature a Birthday Surf Contest, on October 19, a history gallery and retrospective of the city will open at the Cultural Center; November 2 will feature a cake and ice cream social in the City Hall parking lot. The birthday celebration will culminate on November 7 with a birthday party at the Beach pier, including live music, concessions, a huge sand sculpting contest, dancing in the streets and pirates!
